Dads in East Sussex can now get free, bespoke support for their mental health, thanks to new funding awarded to NCT.

NCT East Sussex Parents in Mind programme offers a wide range of mental health support tailored specifically for new dads. NCT- trained Mental Health Peer Supporters offer online informal group sessions to provide non-judgemental, practical information and support, a listening ear and an opportunity to connect with other dads. The online support group is also available in the evenings.

NCT Mental Health Peer Supporters also host regular stay-and-play sessions for dads and their babies across Community Family Hubs within the area. New dads can now meet weekly in Eastbourne, fortnightly in St-Leonards On Sea or weekly in Hailsham from 21 May.

Kevin Wishart, NCT East Sussex Parents in Mind Service Delivery Manager, said: “Becoming a new dad and caring for a baby can be incredibly challenging, both emotionally and physically. We want to remind new dads that it is common for them to struggle with their mental health.

“However, it’s important to have a safe space to speak about how they’re feeling and get the help they need. We would urge all dads to come along to our next stay-and-play session, to get information, support and connect with other dads going through the same challenges.”

NCT, the national charity for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood, was awarded funding from East Sussex Family Hubs to offer mental health support for new dads.
